Therapy for Orange County

Couples, individual, family and addiction work with Daniel A. Linder, MFT — online throughout Orange County.

In short: Daniel A. Linder, MFT is a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (License LMFT 17435) with more than forty years of experience. He works with Orange County clients by Zoom — Anaheim, Irvine, Huntington Beach, Santa Ana, Newport Beach and countywide. Sessions run 45 minutes: $300 individual, $350 couples and family, $350 addiction treatment, $400 intervention. The first 15-minute consultation is free.

Orange County has a strong appearance culture, and appearance culture is hard on intimacy. When a great deal of energy goes into how a family looks from the outside, the honest conversation inside it tends to get postponed — sometimes for years, usually until something forces it.

Couples here often describe a life that works on paper and feels hollow in practice. Nothing is obviously wrong. Nobody is behaving badly. There is simply a growing distance that neither person wants to be the first to name.

Recovery country, and what that misses

Orange County has one of the densest concentrations of addiction treatment in the United States. That is genuinely useful for acute care. What it tends to underserve is the relational layer — the marriage, the family system, the codependency that formed around the addiction and does not dissolve when someone completes a program.

A great deal of relapse is relational rather than chemical. Someone returns to a family that has spent years organizing itself around their addiction, and nobody has done any work on that structure. The approach here treats addiction as a relationship with a means of relief rather than as a disease — The Relationship Model of Addiction™ — which changes what the family is actually asked to do.

Who this is for

  • Couples in Orange County maintaining appearances over an honest conversation neither has started
  • Families whose member has completed treatment and who now need to address the system around them
  • Partners and parents caught in codependency, enabling, or exhausted management of someone else’s struggle
  • Individuals working on the relationship with their own Self
  • Anyone rebuilding trust after infidelity or a serious rupture

The approach

The work is inside-out, and conversational rather than prescriptive. After forty years, Daniel describes himself as a facilitator of conversations — creating a space safe enough for the feelings and issues that have long been avoided, and giving people repeated practice at the skills rather than just a description of them.

A theme runs through all of it: differences are not the enemy of intimacy. They are the passageway to it.

Common questions

Do you see Orange County clients in person?

Orange County work is online by Zoom. In-person sessions are available in Fallbrook, in northern San Diego County, which is roughly an hour from south Orange County.

Do you work with families after someone finishes rehab?

Yes. That is a central part of the practice. Treatment addresses the individual; the family system that formed around the addiction usually goes unaddressed, and that is often where relapse originates.

What does therapy cost?

Individual therapy is $300 per 45-minute session. Couples and family therapy are $350. Addiction treatment is $350; intervention is $400. A 15-minute consultation is free.

Do you take insurance?

Sessions are private pay. A superbill can be provided on request for out-of-network reimbursement.
