A lot of couples therapy is about creating a safe space to start having the conversations that need to be had — talking about the feelings and issues that have long been avoided. In the process, the ice begins to thaw, and the bags that have kept partners from truly seeing each other come off. Couples usually come away feeling closer and more connected.
Every couple hits storms. What separates the ones that deepen from the ones that drift apart is rarely chemistry. It’s the capacity to navigate differences and conflict with honesty, curiosity, and genuine presence.
Couples or relationship therapy pertains to all inner-circle, primary significant relationships:
After forty years of relational work, I think of myself as a facilitator of conversations. My approach draws on the co-creative arts of connection, communication, and conversation, and gives you endless opportunities to practice and hone essential relationship-building skills. A central theme runs through it all: differences are not the enemy of intimacy. They are the passageway to it.
